choke replacement?
So...I've tried the obvious searching on here and Google and have been finding crap for an answer. I downloaded the FSM also and still haven't got a clear answer. Now to the problem: my choke is not closing completely which is giving me trouble on starting, especially after it's sat awhile. I was digging into it earlier today and found a couple of things where I think the problem is. As I understand it, these chokes work off of temperature which either expands or contracts the coil spring inside of the choke housing. This in turn moves the choke "flap" open or closed depending on engine temp. Mine was not closing all the way (about a 1/4" gap) as if it was binding up or something. Even manually I couldn't push it closed. So after laying over the motor for a bit, studying the linkage and figuring out what works what I now can MANUALLY close the choke flap but there is no resistance in either direction. I've narrowed this down to what I think is a faulty spring in the choke (it is over 25 yrs old now) which is not pulling the choke closed as the temp cools. I tried looking for a new choke but can't seem to find anything online at all. Is this a part that can be easily replaced? And if so , where in the h$%@ can you find a new choke? I really don't want to have to convert over to a manual choke either so that's a last resort for me. Any advice?
