Check Engine Light = Code 52
1991 4Runner, 3VZE, AT, 205k
My check engine light has been coming on and off. After doing some research and reading I jumped the TE1 and E1 in the diagnostic connector and counted the blinks of the CEL. This is what I got.
I I I I I...
I I
It just kept repeating that series of blinks. I interpreted this as Code 52.
If my interpretation is correct, code 52 deals with the knock sensor circuit. Specifically Knock Sensor Signal - Open or Short in Knock Sensor Signal.
I guess my next step is to troubleshoot this circuit. I am not sure where to look for this circuit, any suggestions?

I am not exactly sure where to look for the knock sensor. I looked at some other posts on this issue and think I might have a general idea of where too look.
The CEL only comes on after I start driving down the road. If I just start the engine and let it idle or rev it up the sensor does not come on. As soon as I start traveling the CEL comes on. I has been doing that for 3 or so days. Finally the it shut off and didn't come on for about 1 day. Now it is doing it again.
Hopefully it is just a wiring issue. From what I have been reading replacing the sensor is expensive and an in-depth process.

I'm not sufficiently familiar with the 3.0/V6 so I can't tell you where the knock sensor would be located. If you're patient enough to wait a few hours, I'm sure someone will chime in.
