I just bought my 1990 4Runner 4x4, and just installed the fresh built motor. I noticed that the rear springs are sagging and I thought about getting a lift kit but dont want to pay $1200-$1500 to lift it.

Im thinking about buying rear 2-3'' lift springs, front and rear lift shocks, and cranking the torsion bars all the way up in the front. Has anyone tryed this or currently have it on there vehicle? If so do I need rear brake lines?

Does anyone have an idea for a cheap lift?

Downey sells a complete lift 1-2" for around 500. It has shocks and springs.

A lot of guys here run ball joint spacers, which can give you an inch or so in the front. This is a personal preference thing.

OME old man emu also make a 1-2" lift, "TRD parts for u" is a guy on here and can hook you up with that one.

just chuck some old landcruiser coils in .... 93 -97 rears from an fj80 right guys? gives ya about 3.5" then get the bj spacers and tbar crank and your golden////// or get a 1 inch body lift for even cheaper

 

The thing you need to keep in mind is different lifts do different things. Spacers increase overall travel. Adjusting the torsion bars, which is free if you align the front end yourself, does not. You sacrifice down travel for lift.

Lots of these lift kits that include new torsion bars only make the front end stiffer. With torsion bar suspension, the spring stiffness has nothing whatsoever to do with lift. You adjust a stiff aftermarket torsion bar for lift just the same as you would adjust your stock bars. You get stiffer bars if you have a compelling reason to reduce front end flex.

Cranking the bars way up, stock or otherwise, makes for a horrible ride and terrible trail performance. Also the steering takes a beating. Don't do it unless you are only concerned with appearance over function.

1-2" is fine. I have about 1" adjusted in my truck.
