Changing speedometer gear/ A340H transmission
I can't find much specific information on whether or not it's possible to check/change the speedometer drive gear in the transfer case for this transmission. I've been wrestling with the "no speedo, odo, mis-shifting, CEL code 42" problems for the last week and a bit. I've changed the VSS, cluster and ECU and I'm still not getting anything and the wiring seems fine so I'm thinking it might be the actual gear inside the transfer case that's gone.
I'm running a 1993 pickup 4x4 with v6 automatic. From what I've read in the FSM so far, if it's similar to the VF1A transfer case for the 22re automatic, I just need to remove the extension housing and rear companion flange to get at it?
Can anyone confirm or has experience with this?

well if you want to check it, just take the speedo sensor out and get a flash light and LOOK inside the hole... you should see a big worm gear inside it... all you got to do is see whether the teeth are there and not chipped

Pretty sure it's not the sensor. I replaced it with a new one.
The gear I'm talking about is the speedometer drive gear.
