Changing crank seal

I'm going to change the front crank seal. What is a good gaget to use to tap the gasket in? I don't have a socket that big. I want to put it in without removing the oil pump.

A piece of pipe works, if you can find one the right size

Why not just replace the hole pump? You've already done the hard part getting the crank pulley off while still in the truck, again it would be good insurance for the coin.

Pulling the pump is only 6 bolts and there is an o-ring type gasket that can be reused. I would just pull it and do it properly. Then just use 2x4 to tap the new seal in.

Diddo on the 2x4. Or you can use a rubber mallot and lightly tap it in going all around it. It's really no big deal as long as you keep it pretty even and don't whack it down all at once.
