Chain or Gear

Chain or Gear
Wondering the easiest ways to identify if I have a chaing or gear transfer case. Thought a gear was 7 bolt, and chain 5 bolt, but was checking my vehicle last night and could only find 6 bolts. Any help would be great. Thanks

You're probably missing the bolt over/behind the driveshaft.
If you have a 4 cyl, 99.999% you have gear drive.
If you have a 6 cyl, 99.999% you have chain drive
If you have an automatic none of the above applies, as it is a TOTALLY different tcase.
