mine is one of those with all the buttons and everything built right into the handset (http://cobra.com/products/mobile-cb-...d-noaa-weather), so i don't have a box, just a cord with a handset. i have the handset mounted on the right side of the radio box in the passenger footwell area (underneath the glove botx.

What kind of CB radio do you have? Is it the cobra one?

I'm looking to get the cobra one (baseline model for $40).

My full sized CB used to be on the door panel:

I have one like that (used to be my grandpa's. Doesn't work anymore :-( ) I thought about mounting it there, but it had a mounting bracket on the top, so I decided to take that bracket and mount it right under the ash tray. Then I found it it didn't work. So it's in a closet now. Got it all mounted and wired and it powers on, but no signal from anywhere.

i recently picked up one of those Cobra 76xtr's off eBay for like $50. it's a compact unit and pretty much everything is inside the handset. the only thing you have to mount is a small box that's about the size of an old school pack of gum (I didn't realize gum no longer comes like this!) pretty much anywhere you like. also comes with a short magnet-mount antenna. only downfall is it's neon blue. i haven't really tested mine out yet, but i know that i've got incoming CB communication. it was a good buy for me since the only time i'd ever use it is on a trail when i'm less than 1/4 mile away from another rig. if i'm not happy with it, it wasn't that much of an investment.
