I am gonna assume they just unbolted your old cat and not cut it out and your flanges are still there? How short is it?

2 more flanges and some pipe and you could fab a spacer, however more connectors = more oppertunity for exhaust leak, I might would send it back and look for one that matched the length of the oe cat

Is there something about Toyota Catytitic converters that are more desirable for a thief? Last summer on a constructtion site I was working on somebody came during the day and stole the cats off all toyota trucks/4runners in the parkinf log (4 total) and left every other vehicle (around 150) alone. They just cut them out and took off. Why the Toyotas only?

perhaps the the muffler and back end exhaust settled or moved rearward with the cat disconnected. Have you tried pulling it towards the cat? The cat is the only part that fits between the the flange from the manifold and the flange to the muffler.

I'll go measure my cat length and post it as soon as I can to check for spec

17 and 5/8 from end of flange to end of flange

i guess that leaves just one thing, i took the the measurement from a cat off my 95 3.0 pickup and I have no idea if the runner ones are the same. I would figure that they are but they may not be.

Maybe someone can chime in and let us know if the runner and the pickups run the same size converter. If not then thats your prob. If they do run the same size we're back to square 1

There are at least 2 or 3 different models depending on motor, etc. Why not check the magnaflow site - I think they list all the dimensions for the different models:

ebay maybe? search magnaflow & part number. Otherwise, not sure but there must be someone selling them to CA residents because I've read posts from several different people in CA saying they installed magnaflows...

They check serial numbers and installation history of cats at emission tests? Never been through one here in ga. I always assumed that if it was on and passed the smog it was ok.

I bought a replacement at a pick n pull for mine and put it in. That wouldnt fly in cali? I guess that would be item I

appologies for the hijack

You find the remedy for your prob surferkid? would like to know the details of the solution.

talked to smog shops it would be legal to put it on myself and fill out the card but i found a shop that will do it for me 250$ total same magnaflow too and its only 25$ more than what i paid for the replacement so gonna do that plus they will weld it on. but california isnt too smog friendly for anyone who doesnt live here and is gonna move here keep your car registered in that state
