recently i have been getting worse gas mileage and i smell my cat burning everynow and then and it hisses when i shut the car off, its a 1995 3.0 runner 139,000 miles. any thoughts

 

Is the cat glowing red when you park the truck after it's warmed up? Do you have reduced engine power? Are there any leaks or anything surrounding the exhaust around the cat (any holes in the exhaust pipes?). Any louder sound from the exhaust?

really no loss in power i can smell it burn sometimes , never seen it glow red though thanks kevin
