Cat install

Hey guys, thinkin' of getting the magnaflow cheapy cat cause mine is getting old and clogged. I have a 2" exhaust all the way and the cat on it now has the flanges on either end...so a direct fit. Would I have to weld the universal ones from ebay or do they slide on then clamp it? I suppose I'd have to cut the flange off the front and center pipe if I were to slide it on. I wouldn't want to weld the whole exhaust or the front and center pipes to the cat for many reasons but do you guys have any other suggestions from experience? The direct fit ones that I can get around here are $220ish canadian so I'm trying to save some bucks with the universal. Thanks in advance.

I'd take it to a muffler shop and have them weld it in. But make sure they'll let you keep your old cat before hand. Those are worth big $$$ at the recycle place.

You could also cut the flanges off your old cat and weld them to the new cat and bolt it in place but thats more work and at what benefit?

Just a thought....would it be a good idea to weld it, because the front pipe and center pipe would be one piece and if I had to remove it to work on something, it would be a pain....maybe not though...is this common practice to weld it....your thoughts again?

Yeah it is nice sometimes to have at least one flange in there to take apart. The muffer shop should be able to add one in for you. But you can always cut the pipe and reweld it back if you have to take it apart later too. I recently had to cut the pipe on my Taurus to change the oil pan gasket, I was afraid the rusted manifold studs would snap on me, (that would be a big problem). My muffler shop welded it back together for me for free.
