CARB Legal 22re Power Mods (Search hates me?)

I suck at every search function on every forum I've ever been on. I apologize, I know this has been beaten worse than Whitney Houston.

I drove my coworkers 4x2 5 speed today. It has the 22re, no mods.

This thing hauls ass. I would put it up in a race against my 3.4 automatic tacoma 4x4.

Maybe it was just a placebo effect, but it seemed to be outrageously powerful for a 2.4 liter engine. This thing was pulling hills in 5th gear that I have to take in 3rd just to keep speed.

I just changed the oil in my truck (Mobil-1 0-30, 1 quart of lucas to quiet her down a bit) and a new air filter. I'm going to do plugs and wires next week.

Its at 147k miles, motor was rebuilt recently before I bought it. No reciepts, but the valve cover had new gasket material, so there was atleast some top end work done I'd think.

Tires: ProComp Extreme All-Terrains, 31x10.50r15, 15x7 Steelies 36psi front, 34 rear

My last truck had the 3.0, and I never understood why people talked down on it so much. It had 252k miles, never had a head gasket issue, and pulled 70 over the I-5 grapevine no problemo.

Am I just used to that extra power of the V6?

My plan of attack is this:

Intake modification of some sort and then a header.

After that, I'm stuck.

Am I going to be revving too high with 4.56 gears? Or would that still leave me under stock? Should I go 4.88?

Are the LCE, engine builder, or sea2sky cams CARB legal?

Duties of the truck:

Get my ass 16 miles round trip to work everyday

Moderate weekend off-roading at Hungry Valley

Hauling about 1500 pounds of musical equipment in a 10x8 single axle trailer

Trips to Pismo Dunes

----

Help.

And I will take a beating from Scuba for not searching... I don't think he can hit too hard anyways.

TRD has offered a CARB EO'd cam and header. Thorley made a CARB EO'd header, which IIRC was made for TRD.
Beyond that, I don't know of any header or cam that carries a valid EO for Cali regs. That's not to say that any specific other cam won't pass emissions testing in the tailpipe but it's not likely any would carry an EO number.

You know what...

After my step-father died last year, we were going through all the crap in the garage, and there was a 22RE camshaft in a TRD labeled box... I wonder what I did with that... I didn't care at the time because I had the 3.0 and was totally happy with it.

Hope I didn't get rid of it.

just realized you're running Mobil1-0w30 and adding Lucas. Ever thought of using thicker oil? Maybe 10w40? Adding the Lucas is thickening things up to at least 5w and for why when you can get oil thick enough to do the same thing without the problems Lucas has?
