Question carb efi swap

i blew the motor up in my 89. i can get a rebuilt 22r for next to nothing, but i want efi. is it possible change the 22r over and make in efi or am i better off getting a 22re motor, or can i just run the carb motor in my truck.

your efi will bolt up to 85 or newer 22r's iirc.

just have to swap out your distributer and the sensors on your block!

there is a bunch of info on that subject already, try searching and see what you can find!

from what I've heard...
the 22r head is missing some bolt holes for the EFI manifold.
the 22r head can be welded up, drilled and tapped for the EFI manifold though.
also, there is allegedly a difference between the cams for the carb'd and efi'd engines.

Get the 22r and put your EFI on it. Your lucky in the sense you have everything right there and don't have to search around for the misc things.

What year is the 22r?

EFI manifold will bolt up to a 22R head, well the 22R/22RE heads are identical. Except some have oval vs pear shaped exhaust ports.

There were some differences in the 85 and older EFI setups but don't ask me for details.

Nope. All 22R and 22RE heads from 85-95 are EXACTLY the same.

Only difference is the 22R engine uses a cam eccentric for the fuel pump, and the 22RE uses a spacer and a block plate to fill the pump hole.

The harness will be different, you will have to swap the oil pan, but it should be ok otherwise.
