Car seat in an 88 4runner??
I found out recently that I am going to be a father and my wife and I were wondering if it was possible to safely install a car seat in the back of my 88 4runner? She has an 07 Camry so we are good there but I was wondering about my vehicle. I checked back there and my seats flip down very easily and don't look as if I can put a seat back there securely. I looked for clips under the seats and did not see anything down there. Any comments will be great.

I have car seats in my 89. The seats flip up, but not without pulling the strap. Besides, the seatbelt holding the carseat holds the carseat down securely. I've had no problems. I'll also be putting in seatbelts with shoulder straps from my 92 into the backseat once the kids get a little older...

My almost three year rides in the back of my '86 in his car seat with no problems. He likes having the side window open so the wind can blow through his hair!! lol!! Infant car seats are a little more of a pain, but totally duable.

My son's 11 now but we laugh to this day how well we strapped him down in my 87' 4Runner. We got the best child carseat we could find with a 5 point harness...stretched the left (backseat) side belt over to the right side and latched it, stretched the right backseat belt over to the left side and latched it. Latched him in with the *middle backseat belt, and THEN-we drilled a hole in the cargo area and installed a seat belt that ran thru the slit between the 2 backseats and hooked that one up to that little thing on the back of the car seat that anchors the back of the car seat to the back of the vehicle. It sounds complicated but I could get him in or out in under 30 seconds. The truck could've rolled 50 times (God forbid) but that kid would've been stuck so tight in his carseat and the carseat stuck so tight to the vehicle that he wouldn't have went anywhere :-)
