Cap with a burnt high tension cord plug

What would cause the cap to get severly burnt inside the high tension cord plug area? I tried to get pics but my camera is louzy. When I removed the High Tension cord I had "ash" left inside the cap. upon inspection it's severly burnt.

Cap and cord have less than 3000 miles on them.

Name that failure.

Thanks

High Tension cord goes from the cap to teh coil/ignitor.

When I said the "plug" I'm talking about the actual plug this cord connects to on the cap side.

sounds like possibly a bad/dirty connection causing it to arc across.

my guess too. loose connections also can cause misfiring.
clean em up and reinstall and see if it happens again. could also be a faulty component.
