Can I update my instrument cluster?

Hello:

This is my first post and I would like to say hello and hope that I can get some guidance and eventually contribute here.

I just bought a 89 4runner off of Ebay. Some of you guys were probably watching the auction (I tend to watch all the first generation auctions). It was the grey 4runner from Abilene Texas. I talked to the owner and he guaranteed me there was no rust whatsoever (big thing for us Michigan guys) on the truck, so I bought it.

Anyway, I really wanted a "loaded" 4Runner, but I guess I was getting inpatient and figure I can always get rid of this one if the kids just have to have A/C!!

Well, I'm already planning on making this "spartan" 4Runner a little nicer. First off, can I update the instrument panel, or cluster? The truck just has a speedometer, coolant temp guage, and a gas guage..........can I purchase another instrument panel that has a tach, oil pressure guage, etc, pull the old cluster out, and then mount the "new" cluster? Does Toyota use the same wiring harness in all its 4Runners and simply leave the wires "hanging" for the "spartan" trucks?

Sorry to ramble. I'm just pumped for finally being a 4Runner owner!!
