I was called from a friend of mine with a ford ranger twice as big as my *stock 86.5 yota pickup* at about 9:30. Turns out he got stuck in mud and needed to be pulled out. It takes about 45 mins to get there, and so I hauled . I got there, hook up a chain to our trucks and realize his tires were 3/4 down in the mud. Turns out, he doesn't know how to get out of any situation, other than to gun the throttle.....Ya, I know. I try to explain to him that it will only dig him deeper but guess who doesn't listen. I'm out there shoving branches under the tires and finally after a couple of tries with no luck, I tell him that the only way he's going to get out is if he doesn't gun the throttle and if he alternates between wheels all the way to the right and left (ya he didn't even know about that) and as soon as he listened to me, What do ya know, he slipped outta that mud like a hot knife through buttah! It took a good 15-20 minutes, but I PULLED A TRUCK TWICE AS BIG AS MINE OUT OF THE MUD. I'm so pumped right now. I have to go back tomorrow and I'll try to take pics of his truck. All in all, Toyotas rule!

Oh yeah, Recovery straps are on my list of things to get definitely. I need to start saving now if people are going to be calling me like this.... I think this is the fifth time I have had to either help pull someone out or bring my chains. I think it's fun trying to get people out though...I guess I'm kinda wierd.

I pulled a fullsize early 80's chevy on 35's up a snow covered embankement few years back.

this truck:



Situation was he got sideways on the hill, butt end slid down so his nose was pointing up hill. ... He forgot he took it out of 2wd since he was messing on a pile of gravel in the pit just screwing around, but never stuck it back in 4wd...

so he was butt down on this hill, the rear tires ended up in a ditch, well it was a trough and when he went to throw 'er back in 4wd he blew a front hub... he had autohubbs... so he was stuck in 2wd with bald 35" swampers and butt end downhill in a trough... STUCK.. we tried everything we could but given the foot of snow, bald tires and permafrost ground he was done for.

Backed the lil yoter down the hill, threw on my full set of chains, 4low 1st and crawled up the hill and pulled him right a long.

He was humbled to say the least, given the terrain, the slope and the size of the rig it was amazing I was able to get enough traction in the snow even with chains.

I was unsuccessful in pulling a Yamaha Grizzly out of a mudhole earlier this spring. He got out by using me as a winch point. Barely...

Unfortuanetly I didnt get any pictures of the actual extraction process but I did get this shot of my rig before hooking up his winch:



his quad was in a hole that the water level started a few feet in elevation below my front tires. I couldnt get enough traction in reverse to un"suction" him from the abyss his quad was barried in, LOL

not to mention a grizzly is a DAMN BIG QUAD.

Anyhoo more good memories =)

Only his seat was above water. It's amazing how tough those yamaha's are. The big bear (quad on the left) is more reliable tho, that thing will survive intaking water.. I crap you not. Amazing...

Pulled him out again yesterday, then he had to pull me out. If time was on my side I would have gotten out myself, but I had to be home so I just hooked up a chain to his and we got out. He led me to this place and told me to go first, so I think he just wanted to pull me out for a change. lol
