a/c clutch throwing sparks.

I tried a search but came up with nothing that would help. So.....

Got a lot of small things finished on the rig today (don't get me started on the SR5 full power option rig that I found in the junk yard....) and the last, and biggest, was replacing the air conditioning clutch. So I went to the scrap yard and found one that seemed to be in good shape, no grinding, no strange noises, off of a rig with less than 100K. Put it on and when I hit the little button it turns green but the clutch didn't engage. I killed the rig and tightened up the nut on the clutch and started it again, this time the clutch was turning but not engaging.... then there were a few sparks.

So I'm guessing the clutch or something is bad? Is there a magnet in there that could have been broken or something? Maybe a fuse??

Thank you for your help.

Bleeder the compressor turns and it was working last year when the original clutch took a dump. What strikes me as odd is the front part of the clutch will turn a little while the engine is running without the button pushed. Man it's been over 100 degrees here for the past couple of days and I need to get this done so I can get the windows tinted and not die in the heat while I wait the two days for the tint to cure.

I really don't want to drop 400$ on an entire new system but I may have to if this turns out to be the clutch........ stupid heat.

I mean really isn't the compressor and clutch supposed to last over 230,000 miles like the rest of the rig??

edit: On a different note you just wait until I post up pics of the paint, man it's a whole new rig now.

the clutch should not spin when the ac is off and motor runs... it gets power to the magnetic coil inside the clutch when you turn ac on that it grabs and spins the pump... I say the clutch is toast.. but you can get replacement kits at schmu.... O'reillys for less than 100 bucks i believe.
