A/C Bracket and Compressor differences

I recently acquired a A/C bracket and compressor off of a 22R (~'86) to put on my 1987 22re. Now, prior to getting the bracket, I had already taken the A/C compressor (which had the hoses still attached) off of my '87 donor 4runner and cleaned it up to put on this truck. I then cleaned and painted the bracket off the 22r and bolted it on the 22re block which went without a hitch. The problem came when I attempted to put the RE compressor on the R bracket. The compressors are quite different it turns out The RE compressor housing is quite a bit larger, the pulley is different, and to top it all off.....the top mounting holes are further apart so it won't even bolt onto the bracket!

Does anyone know if this is in fact a 22r vs 22re difference or is there a difference between years? I'll try to get some pics up tonight.

Difference is not necessarily RE vs. R, its factory vs. dealer add-on AC.

The carb trucks didn't come from the factory with AC since they were basically stripped down models. The dealer was supplied with kits from an outside source, which would install above/in place of the AIR injection system. They also added these kits on to RE motors which didn't come equipped with AC from the factory.

Hmmm, that makes it pretty difficult to source parts! What happens if you have to replace a compressor? Is there any way to know what you have?

One thing I've noticed is there seems to be a different compressor for 84-85 vs 85-88. Might be that this bracket is for one of the early style ones?
