Buzzing noise from transmission
My old mans 95 4 runner 22re 5 speed started making a buzzing noise the last couple days coming from under the shifter. I think he said it starts when hes driving and lasts for about a minute. Anyone have any ideas what it is?

My first guess would be that the throw out bearing is going out. If the sound goes away as he begins driving the bearing might be a little seized up until it gets warm.
Just a guess though.
edit. Have you or he checked the fluid level? It might be that the fluid is a little low and he's hearing/feeling the gears moving until the fluid warms up.

I think he said its more like an electrical buzzing noise. He also said hes finding it hard to shift. I never actually heard it yet or anything. He just called tonight seeing if i could find anything out for him.

Does it happen when the clutch is engaged or not? I often get a buzzing/rattling noise when engaged, and i let my foot off the gas. Its really annoying.

I think he said its just while hes driving. He came out the other day and told me he thinks the clutch is going. We checked the fluid and it was dry so he put fluid in it and it seemed better. Now its making that buzzing every once and awhile. And hes finding it hard to shift. Fluid is still good.
