Question buying a used automatic from a rolled 89 4runner

Hi ..I would like to know if a used auto A340H from a 89 4runner will bolt up to my 95 4runner v-6, and I also have the ADD feature too with the ECT button.....I want to know if the 89 4runner came with the ADD feature with the auto tranny and does it have the ECT feature that I have on my 95, and will the wiring harness of the 89 4runner work with my 95 4runner wiring harness?
I also want to know if there is any way of knowing if the tranny I'm trying to buy can be checked out to know if it is in good condition?
The guy I want to buy it from said that he bought it from his friend and that friend had a roll over and didn't affect the tranny....sooo does a roll over in any was hurt the transmission? thanks for any info you can provide to me on this matter

It will physically bolt up, but the trans will not fit your application. 89 4Runners did not have an ADD option. Things like shift points, electronics, NSS, and more are different.

well folks I'm not going to purchase the tranny because I really don't want to waste money on something that I can't return after I were to buy it, so if any one else can chime in on this that's cool for future reference

what about a transmission being in a rollover will this damage the trans? and if so what will the damage be? and will a transmission being involved in a rollover be worth buying?

Look for a whole 4Runner. 90-90 4Runners with bad engines are a dime a dozen and can be had cheap. Take what you need and either part the rest out or sell it as scrap metal. They have about $175.00 worth of metal in them after they've been gutted. Heck I just parted out a 93 4Runner and had a tranny I couldn't sell. I ended up taking $200.00 for it with the t-case.

Rollover damage will not affect a trans. Unless the thing sat gas pinned in gear while upside down, which is unlikely. We get many vehicles rolled over, and the engine and trans are almost always unaffected. I have never had an issue with a trans ina rollover. The trans components are bolted together, so upside down, rightside up, sideways, etc won't make a difference. As long as it wasn't trying to drive while upside down for a few hours, you would be ok.

A used auto tranny should always be re-sealed.
It's relatively inexpensive, once out of the vehicle, and it can save a lot of heart aches down the road.
It would be silly not to re-seal one that you get used.
Just a silly as not having the engine head checked by a machine shop while it's off when doing a HG.

FredTj....thanks for the advice and your input....now about re-sealing the tranny are you talking new seals at the front and rear. I think my rear main seal is leaking and I should replace that also, is that easy to do?

I''m talking about the whole thing.
It's basically taken apart and all the seals, such as on the interior pistons, etc. replaced.
It's relatively cheap insurance when buying a used tranny.
If you take it into a shop a complete re-seal (interior and exterior) should run around $300.00 or so.
I would also highly recommend a new/rebuilt TC.

Will any A340H with t-case work

I have read a few more post on this subject and according to there post any A340H with t-case will work. The ADD feature is separate from the tranny and I may have let the used A340H with t-case from the rolled 89 4x4 4runner get away and it was cheap...so someone chime in did I get incorrect information OR is it true that if the89 4runner didn't have the ADD & ECT feature it would not have worked?
I really need to know so I can continue looking for a tranny for my 95 4runner v-6 auto 4x4 (A340H) with t-case

update...

still not sure that my whole tranny has to be replaced...I'm still trying to diagnosis my problem, because every transmission shop I have taken it to said "we have to take it apart to see what is the problem and there will be a charge for that but we really can't pinpoint where the grinding is coming from but if you want just keep driving it until it breaks! then you will have a better idea of where the problem is"............so I'm still searching for some advice and this is a weird issue I'm having with the tranny or something in that area
