So my readings for IDL-E2 ohms reading which is supposed to be 2.3k or less is reading infinity at 57mm, fully closed and fully open. Shouldn't this throwing a CEL or something?



In fact ive never had a CEL come up for anything in the 2 months ive had her, even when i accidentally drove her up the hill with the O2 sensor hanging out not in the pipe

 

I was adjusting mine yesterday and I get the same thing, everything else checks out fine but the .57mm test is at open/infinite.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on the subject.

 

Interesting, I wonder if this a common way for a TPS to die.
85Turbo are you getting decent gas mileage with the TPS in this state? Because i am getting 15/16 city & 18 hwy, a little better if i drive it like an old lady

What's the reasoning why you checked your TPS out? Only reason I am is because I am getting engine codes 25 and 26 and it runs rough.

 

Well that confirms the TPS is dead, thanks Boostin, the only reason i hit the TPS check was because i made a huge laundry list of things to check on to see whats eating my MPG so horribly. No CEL

 

So im priceing out some TPSs and the usual schucks and napa stuff is around $85-$90 saw something on partstrain.com for $61, is this one of those "get what you pay for" items or anything is good. Anyone ever heard of Forecast brand TPSs? is there a better place to get one?

Check rockauto and amazon.com. I found some for about $35. I think a denso one was like $55

 

Ok so i bought a new one, thanks DC. When i took it off to replace it, the PO had it set in a position that, when at closed throttle, read infinity. I readjusted and remounted and it works now haha.
Message for future searchers on Throttle Position Sensors: just because it reads infinity at closed throttle doesnt mean its a dead TPS. Take it off and fiddle w/ it first

BTW im keeping the TPS i bought from DC cuz he gave me such a good deal, ill have a spare now.

 

Hey would you be interested in selling that TPS, my is busted and having problems, when i start the car up, it wont stay in rev, unless if i rev it up pass 2400RPM then it is ok...

 

Yea I was going to ask if you fiddled with it and did that consistency test that's also on 4crawler's site as well. The one where you loosen the TPS and move it CW/CCW, then measure the OHMs, but glad you figured it out!

 

So being as the ECU never went into "IDL mode", because the TPS never tripped that circuit, was the ECU in the closed loop circuit all the time? Even at idle speeds? I only ask because it seems my backfire/afterfire problem that i had when starting to take off up my hill has gone away.

Does the closed loop run richer or leaner than idle?
