If it's the same truck as in your avatar, dont change the front! I personally think theyre really great looking.

You could go with TJM or ARB. Not sure about other options, those ones seem to be pretty mainstream.

A double tube Smittbuilt would match the front nicely. Here is mine, along with a poser shot.

Just a little correction but unfortunately TJM doesn't make bumpers for the 1st gen...

Actually TJM does make one for an 86 4Runner. I believe that it's TJM Part #S1767Y for the T-17. (unless the TJM USA web site is out of date!)

[hijack] Now my question is:

Does anyone have experience with the T-17 on an 86-90 IFS Toy?
Did you winch with it?
Does it have the problems that the Tacos have with frame endcaps?

I like the look of the warn bumpers for the front and rear. Does anyone know if they will mount up to a 1st gen? I know that the allpro rear tube bumpers work for both 1st and 2nd what do you guys thinks about these?

Nice setup I love the TJM and also the Big Country looks nice in the rear. But you have a 2nd gen right? I still haven't seen a 1st gen with a TJM in front...i'm pretty sure the 2nd gen front bumper won't bolt onto a 1st gen, correct me if im wrong anyone.

TJM has different part numbers for 1st gen & 2nd gen.
Here's a picture of a 1st gen w/ a T-17.

Ahh thanks 86Original I finally see what it looks like. I'm assuming there are also different part #'s for the SA and IFS on the 1st gen cuz I know the mounting is different?

Toyopny,
As noted in my post above the '86-89 4Runner T-17 is TJM Part #S1767Y. See the TJM USA page for a complete list. They only have a T-13 for the 84-85 (solid axle) models.

I did the cutting and grinding, a buddy did the welding. Tacked with stick, then MIG.

I think it's just the black paint and the photo. I don't think you can get more approach angle than this design and have protection from underneath!

From the side, it sticks out exactly the same as the sliders, which is not quite as far as the edge of the tire. I'll try and take one that shows it better.

Is that 2x2"? What thickness, and I can't tell if you capped the ends or not?

Sorry about the threadjack!

2x2 0.120" wall, yes ends are capped (lots of grinding!)

The hitch receiver is 2.5x2.5x0.25" wall

Here's a view from the back showing how it fits close to the body

Here's one showing the "design" a little clearer
