brown smoke??

hey, just finished doing the head on my 90 4runner 22re. the old head was cracked and had a bad valve guide on one cylinder. so bad, that it would foul the plug. But it wouldnt blow any blue smoke.

anyways, i just finished the head swap. and now it smokes. a little blue and when you rev it up....... brown smoke???? I have a feeling the blue smoke is just what was in the exhaust being burnt off as the tail pipe was black before. Now its a brownish colour. any ideas what would cause that??

cat is new as well as 02 sensor. rest of exhuast seems ok.

The one bad valve guide, fouling the plug, put lots of carbon in the muffler. Drive it, it will go away. Keep an eye on your oil level until the guide seals seat.

update. did a compression test. 180-185 on all 4. plugs are clean. compresion before was 160, 120, 160, 160 and #3 plug was covered in oil.

gonna put a permit on it and drive it for a day or two and see what happens.
smoke now is more of a greyish blue colour and does not smell like oil or coolant.
