Last night when I when I was changing the rear shocks in my 94 pu 4wd, the bottom bolt broke off on the right side in the spring seat. Tried drilling it out, made a hole all the through, then the problems began....
We tried to jam an easy out into it, got it tight then broke it off inside the bolt. After this we tried drilling and beating the crap out of it for hours, but only ruined a bunch of bits and got maybe a 1/4 inch in. Was wondering if anyone had any advice...
get a new spring seat? (where could u find one?)
Keep drilling on it?
any better ideas?

I hate easy outs. Good luck drilling thru that. I would try using heat or soak with a penetrate. If you want a new one now, you're best bet is a junkyard or a fellow YT'r that just did a ubolt flip.

Totally, heat and penetrant if you still have anything to work with (some of the bolt sticking out to grab or if you can get another easy out in there). Other than that, drill it all the way out with a sharp bit or replace the spring seat.

Is that the lower spring plate you are talking about? If so, may have an extra one for the wider spring perch, came off a '94 pickup. The wider perch is used on the trucks that have the rubber lined steel clamp around the springs and under the u-bolts.

I like the tapered square type screw extractors:


I've had good luck with them and they are a lot less likely to break off and if they do, the broken piece comes out pretty easy.

Yup, that sucks!

On a side note, due to the time displayed in that pic, this event hasn't happened yet. So, first thing is the soak it with penetrant, apply BFH and don't break the easy out this time! LOL!!!!
