So I just broke in my new motor yesterday and drove it about 40 miles is it safe to run it for another 20 miles or so or should I change the oil now?

How long did you let it idle before you drove it? I would say it's safe to drive a few more miles. When you change the oil make sure to put in some more zync additive.

Idled for a few minutes while checking leaks and tunning. It also has zinc additive in it now too.

What break in oil did you use? They usually have a suggest what is best. There are some that have 3 stages. Some 2.

I did my break in for 100 miles, Then change the oil and filter and ran 1500 miles. I'm in exchange I ran 5000 miles, Then switched to amsoil synthetic. That was 50,000 miles ago. I'm actually using 0 w 40album because it provides superior protection at startup, And is just as good at temperature.
