Body Mounts: How To Check ??

Hey All,

I have a '90 'Runner w/ ~150k (not abused) that I'm rebuilding for camping and desert runs with the bikes. During teardown, I'd like to check the body mounts to see what shape they're in. What do I check for specifically?

On an 18 year old vehicle, should I even bother, or just replace? If so, where and what to get?

TIA,

Qdude

PS: All other suspensions/steering components to be freshened or replaced.

I would check out 4crawler.com for tons of information on body mounts.

Yeah, body mounts and anything/everything else toyota related...... 4crawler is like a darn "Toyota Britannica vol. 1".

Thought of that, but I can't access it from "here" behind the firewall. Not sure why... maybe it's classified as "Porn For Runner Owners." Will definitely check it from home.

PS- Not looking for a lift, just replacements, if necessary.

If you're talking about the metal mounts on the body and frame of the vehicle you need to check for rust/holes/stress cracks etc. It's also a good idea to pull the carpet up to look at the floors around the mounts, just an fyi.

If you're talking about the body bushings then just check them for cracks/dry rot. Since you'll be looking in the same place either way then it's easy to check everything at once.

I must confess that I've never checked the mounts on a Toyota. The above is what I looked for when I was in my International Scout phase but it should hold true for most vehicles.
