Bad idle when warm!

My 1995 4runner 3.0 runs really rough when i start it up after it is already warm. Runs fine when its a cold start, but when it is started when warm, the idle starts to drop until it dies. When i try to start it again, and i give it some gas to keep the rpms up, it jsut shakes and doesnt really do anything, even if i floor it! And if i can get the car moving by revving it and trying to drive off, it runs like crap for a few miles, then goes back to normal. I really cant figure this out, i have changed the throttle position sensor, fuel filter, i have checked all the plugs, and intake, and now im stuck! please help!

no it doesnt happen when its 20 below outside, it only happens when my engine is warm...
I think it might have to do with the fuel pump, but im not sure, i might just go for it and see what happens...

I've had the same symptoms on my 3VZE and changing the O2 sensor helped significantly. It sometimes hiccups after a warm restart, but no longer stalls out like it used to before the O2 swap.

Here's a thread that you may want to look at:

Good Luck!

thanks troy. i swapped out the 02 sensor and it fixed my issues. I no longer have the high idle and it doesn't sputter anymore. PLUS, my gas mileage is exceptionally better.

Glad it worked out for you. That's what this forum is all about, people helping each other out.

Mine has two O2 sensors I think. Which one did you replace? Did you replace both? One more symptom to report - when it is idling really low like that, my exhaust smells horrible

I've got only one O2 sensor. Please keep in mind that it has not resolved my problem, it only helped it.
