Back window motor compatibility question

So my back window is slow. I've searched. I am likely going to rule out the relays tomorrow, as so far, cleaning them hasn't had an effect.

My question is what motors are compatible for the job. I've read that a driver's side window from a 4Runner or a Toyota passenger car will work. Is this true? If so, what is the most recent motor I can get. Or should I buy a rebuilt motor from an auto parts store?

I know for sure that the drivers door on passanger cars do work, as I've got one on mine now... As for the 4Runners door window I couldn't tell you....

The rear window motor and side window motors ARE the same BUT they are geared differently. They are NOT interchangable.

I have used motors for sale if you are interested. Just let me know

The question is which passenger car, any Toyota (Camry, Corolla, Solara?) and from what years?

dirtoyboy: How much for one in really good condition. Are you saying that the side window motors from any Toyota vehicle are geared wrong or just the side window motor from a 4Runner won't work.

No, I was saying that the motors are the same for side windows and rears but they are geared differently. The side motors can NOT handle the load of a rear window. Dont even try. I can sell you one for 30 bucks INCLUDING shipping but there are no guarantees on electrical parts. Try pricing one from the dealer and see what they say!

Hope this helps you buddy

I know very well what a motor from a dealer costs...about the same as an air locker...tough called there.

I'll let you know if I need one, thanks for the quote.

I put a different motor into my rear window from a passenger window and it worked fine. I've even put one upside down as it was 180 out from original and it worked as well...

The side motors and the rear motors are the same, i dont think that they are geared differentley, ive been using a motor from the drivers rear door in my rear window for some time, no problems, not slow, works fine. Motors form most same era toyota vehicle will work. Pull it , take it to the junk yard, compare.
good luck

Not true.

The power window motors are exactly the same. I have installed many side door motors into rear gates with no negative consequences. Handles the weight just fine.

90-95 4Runner L. Front, L. rear, and gate motors are all clocked the same and have the exact same plug. Although Toyota does have different part numbers, its likely just becuase the gate uses a Blue plug and the doors use white plugs lol.

Pre 92 Camry and corolla window motors will work as well, but the plugs will have to be changed. Just make sure to compare the clocking of the motors before trying to install them.
