I need to remove the diffs from a 94 4runner.
we will be removing the engine/trans/tcase.

anyone have a link to the info?
And I need, if possible, to be able to roll the vehicle around, after the diffs are removed.

The front shouldnt present any problem, but what about the rear?

Can I slide remove the diff, slide the shafts back in, and bolt em, so I can roll the vehicle around the yard and eventually onto a trailer?

It would really help out ifwe were able to roll the vehicle around in the yard after the driveline is removed.
Covanants, restrictions, limited space and all that.

I would think flat towing is not an option with the rear diff out, but even if the buyer could roll the rear onto a dolly or trailer, it would make it easier to get rid of.

It's my understanding that the diff supports that end of the axle. With no 3RD, the bearings will take a lot of load. Not sure if this would be good or bad.. but my guess is bad.

Since a majority of Toyota 3RD's interchange, I'd suggest picking up a junk one at a local salvage and just putting that in their for transport and such. I'd probably go that route just to have zero worries about possible damage. Plus vehicle could be flat towed in that condition.

 

I need the diffs for the odd ratio.

Im sure it would be hard on the bearings, just stuffing the shafts back in , but I just need it to roll around.

Any tips on removing the front and rear diff?

Person that is doing it has never worked on a Yota truck before, usually works on Volkswagens.

 

I will almost guarantee that you will damage the bearings, the seals and possibly the housing if you try rolling the truck around with no third member in the axle housing.

 

the 4 bolts on the back side of the drum slide out after the brake lines are off then unbolt the drive shaft 4 14mm bolts then theres a bunch of 12mm bolts going around the 3rd the front you just unbolt the cvs and the drive shaft then take the 3 big 17mm out and it will drop on yeah

 

Ratio won't matter for towing or rolling around. In fact, it would be drivable with mis-matched ratios... provided you never have both axles engaged. You could always remove a driveshaft to overcome any issues.

I'd put a 3rd of some sort in there and not risk damage.

Why not take the diff out with the vehicle ON a trailer and just leave it there? No diff no roll.
