AUX lights.... What are you using?

It's gotten to that point on my list, AUX lighting. I'm looking for some options here, first brands coming to mind are PIAA and Hella's. For now just a pair of lights would be nice, maybe spending up to $200? How is the difference between the Hella 500's and 1000's? How are the IPF's? Looking at the Hella lighting chart Here I may save up for some 4000's, showing a HUGE improvement over anything else offered!

Any other input?

If youwant really kick a ligts, you can't go past Lightforce. They cost a little more but they are worth every cent.
I have a pair of the 240 Blitzes and a pair of the 140 lances and they are the best lights I have ever had by a long margin.

I recently bought 4 hella 500's, they are a good light, and you can upgrade them pretty cheap with new bulbs. Hella 4000's arent that much above your 200 mark, prolly around 250-270ish, you just have to look around. With the 4000's i would say use the eurobeam. I know some people with 1000's, they are good, but you might as well do 4000's for that price.

I bought my hella 500's here, for 50bucks a pair.

Thats a pretty sweet deal.

Aux lighting

I am using Piaa 60xt driving lights. I also have a set in the ion fog which I can switch out. I used a performance products valance and installed the lights on my own. It looks clean and adds extra lighting.

1 pr - Old Skool PIAA "rally" lights (use H4 bulb) in a fog beam pattern (but on high - its pretty high)

1 pr - Hella XL "low beam" lights. Works well as a fog light - IMHO better than a "fog" beam.

I replaced a pair of PIAA 520 driving pattern with some Lightforce 240 Blitz's.

Literally night and day difference.

Also, having broke several glass lenses, I will never use them again.

PIAA customer service is non-existent too.

What about the argument, quality over quantity? I could run 4 Hella 500's for just a bit less than the 4000's. We used the 4000's on my old rally car and were great for throwing light way down the road, but for wheeling the distance is not as big of a factor.

The argument would be you could run 2 fog patten for wide angle and two driving pattern for distance.

This will provide better light than just the one pair, but will increase the load on the electrical system.

Or you could buy one pair of lightforces with the combo filters and do the same thing with 2 lights...

Only thing with the lightforce is they run $340, much more than I want to spend on lighting at this point.

I have been impressed with the 2 Hella 500's I have. Upgraded the 55W bulbs to 100W.

The Hella's from Cabella's for $10 each make great rock lights. I have four of those, and an extra two of the cheap tractor type light from WalMart tucked under the front bumper.

I don't think the 500's do much for slow rock crawling. No high powered driving light will work very well for that application. But for blazing down dirt roads or desolate 2 lane they sure do help a lot.

I didn't upgrade the wiring, but I am not an expert. No issues yet though. I am running a 30 amp relay... if that helps.

Hmmmm... I thought about my response and should clarify. I only used the two leads coming from each light, and ran my own switch, fuse block, relay and wire for the rest. I'd let you know the gauge I used, but I can't remember.

It was slightly bigger than the pigtails from the lights themselves. How's that for tech??
