You're biting off a lot with an automatic trans rebuild. They are extremely complex, even compared to manual transmissions. On top of that, the A340H is more complex than many other autos, since the hydraulic transfer case is basically another whole little trans.

There are plenty of resources for rebuilding manuals, because they're relatively simple.

I don't know of any A340H rebuild guides, but I would go very slow, take a ton of pictures, and label everything.

Here's some great info, but it isn't really a guide.

If your second gear is slipping, you don't just "switch it out". There is no "second gear" but rather a group of planetary gear that are held together or released to get various gear ratios.

If the second gear was slipping, and that was the only problem with the transmission, The No. 1 One Way Clutch would be highly suspect.

What exactly is wrong with the transmission on your truck?

the tranny in my truck now is all F'd up. the transfer case is all messed up and so are different gears, so i bought a new one and the guy said the only issue is that second is slipping, i havent put it in though because i want to make sure it is fixed before i install it, and with some research, it could be the solenoids, is that true or was i misled?

Bad solenoids cause certain gears not to work at all. If it is slipping, you either have worn out clutches, or low line pressure caused by a leak or loose clearances somewhere in the hydraulic circuit.

If it has been slipping for a while, you will probably find bits of clutch material in the pan.
