Thatd be a project So much...

Still I think if you have a V8 then yes an auto cause they make some strong auto trannys with simple wiring that last for the more popular high power V8's.

For total control ide go with the manual anyday. So strong, cheap, reliable, upgradable, cheap Oh wait I already said CHEAP! Auto holds back power, so on and on, expensive, and on.

Toyota go for the manual!

Big stuff auto... Maybe

Sure, going over the flat, but up a hill this isn't the case.

Say you stall it on a hill. Can't let off the brake or you'll go back, need the gas... So you put it in gear, click the clutch start cancel button and giv'r! You should be able to start it while in gear...

Manual FTW!, auto SUCKS...power, control, and allows people who already don't know how to drive to be even less alert.

I didn't realize that all hills were alike. There are some snow covered hills where an automatic would be helpful, as you cannot shift fast enough to maintain enough momentum and by the time the clutch has engaged in a higher gear, your already going to slow for that gear.

Have you ever driven in that crusty wet snow?

I was just giving info, I want to get that stuff, but realistically, having wheeled both, I prefer the auto. It comes down to opinion, you will never like the auto, you've made that clear.

OP, it's all about opinion...

We got away from the topic, the topic was rock crawling. Depends how serious you are, but driving and automatic with one foot on the brake is pretty user friendly. That said engine braking will be less effective.

I think if I were to build a truck for rock crawling it would be a standard with twin cases.

Autos won't work at a really high angle I believe, so check that out.

Inchworm says to overfill the trans with (I believe) 1 qt. That fills the tailhousing section and prevents that problem.

Well, I would never own a toyota with an automatic. There are a few cars I would like to own with an auto, but very few.

Yes, its all personal prefrence. One is not better then the other, they each have their good points and bad points.

realistically, when I build it up to the standards I want it will have a TH350 or TH400 behind the 22re. Or, the 3.0 autos and turbo autos are much better than the 22re version.

Jaguar XJ is one I'd like. One of the only nice-to-drive automatics I've ever driven. In fact, I'd be happy if I could own my truck and a XJ6 or 8, they're both nice.
