Auto Tranny Dying?

yesterday was driving home back to CA and ran into some transmission issue. the first thing i noticed was after driving about 300 miles, i noticed that the transmission would almost attempt to get out of overdrive, but not all the way. the engine would go up about 500 rpm and then back. i was going about a constant 75 mph and it would only do this when i was going at constant speed. the other thing i noticed is that when i came to a complete stop and then speed up, the engine felt as if my back wheels were spinning and would make a very rough start. once i got up to about 15 mph though, everything was fine. i thought it might be that the tranny was getting to hot, but it did it again when i ran it this morning. it shifts from gear to gear fine and it's been about 5k miles since i did a tranny fluid flush.

what could be causing this issue? bad solenoids? tranny just giving out?

the slipping up to 15mph sounds like a bad first gear clutch pack.
before you do anything, check the fluid.
is it burnt?
is it low?
does it have any material in it of anykind, chunks, metal shavings, ect?

i checked the fluid and it seems to be fine. no metal flakes, as red as it was when it went in, and the level hasn't changed.

Looks like another fluid flush takes out another 1.. If you have not been changing the fluid since it was new, sometimes its better to leave it alone.. Ive seen a many of them be fine , change filter and fluid and within 5000 miles its gone

just wat i was hoping not to hear... well maybe i'll try some of that lucas oil stuff. i've heard that when auto trannys start dying they shift hard and that isn't the case with mine. it seems to be only in first gear. anyone got any other suggestions before i take it to a shop?

Burn it to the ground... its done! Just kidding. I tried 2 quarts of lucas and it didnt help at all. I guess mine was just too far gone.

But I had the same symptoms, no O/D, slipping when taking off...

I bet its time for a new one

Try the LUCAS, what do you have to loose. It worked for me, and my trans wasn't shifting in any gear, didn't even moove. Put the LUCAS in, and still running after 3 years. Yes, I had to add lucas every noe and then, but the s#%it works. Trust me.

My votes on Lucas before the shop. A whole lot cheaper. And it might help. Lucas products can work wonders sometimes.

Most autopart stores will carry it Just be sure it is LUCAS for the trans, and not for the oil treatment.

check out this link.. http://www.autobarn.net/luc10009.html

lucas tranny fix is in and definitely a noticable improvement. still slipping but i was reading that it takes a little to take full effect. i'll keep driving it easy for a while and see how things come out. my friend was suggesting that it might be the first gear clutches, but that means replacing all of them while their at it. anyone know how much it costs and what all is done in this kind of fix?

mine is at 181,000 and is starting to die, i took it to the shop and they basically said that it was being held together by the sludge that was inside of it. you dont get everything out wen you do just a regular tranny oil change. it could be that you just need a new tranny oil filter, but its risky cuz if you are in the situation i am, then it will kill ur tranny a lot faster. the filter keeps it from getting the right pressure so that could be why it is slipping in first. it may cost alot but my best bet would be pay the money to have it checked out, and maby have it stress tested. they put mine under load and all it did was basically rev high and not go anywhere.

i did a flush about 5000 miles ago so the filter should be fine. if it's still slipping a lot after the lucas stuff kicks in i'll have it checked out now rather than later this summer.
