Auto shifter bushings?

Auto shifter bushings?
Forgive me, but I am at work and haven't even taken the console apart yet, but my '88 4Runner has a LOT of slop in the auto shifter. The shifter flops around like it wants to be a manual (front to back, side to side). Are there any bushings or servicable parts in the mechanism that can cause this? Is it just a matter of tightening some screws? How different are they from 2nd generation 4Runner shifters?
Thanks!
Patrick

I have the same problem and have done a little searching. There are bushings to be replaced. When you fix it take lots of pictures!

I don't know what you mean by "a lot" of slop, but the auto shifter is not supposed to be as stationary as a manual shifter. It has to be able to move around because of the nature of the linkage and the shifting around of the motor/tranny assembly from torque. Can you still shift in and out of the gear range without difficulty or missing any gears?
