I have done all the reading I could find and I have a specific question that wasn't really covered.

I have ordered an Aussie locker for my rear (XD24930 ). I understand that the thrust washers in the diff get re-used, but have to be within spec.

I checked the FSM, and I'm pretty sure the 'side gear thrust washers' are the two I need to re-use, to make sure though... Are they the 41361 washers on this page? -->> http://www.toyotapartsoverstock.com/...rimLevel=18204

Now, for only 5-15 bucks a piece, I would generally get a new one. Except, I'm not sure if replacing them is a good idea since it is currently working with no issues. Will I potentially do more harm by putting in a new part that may potentially be slightly thicker/thinner? Shall I order ahead or wait and only change if one of the existing is way out of spec?

The side gear thrust washer is what you will reuse if they are in spec. You need to measure them with at least a set of calipers if you don't have a micrometer but a micrometer is better. To convert your inch measurement to metric multiply your reading by 25.4 look at the fsm to see if that number is in the range. If they are not in spec then you need to order new ones or you can just order new ones and build it with the new ones. New ones will not hurt anything it just may not be necessary.

Unless your differential has suffered trauma in the past (lack of lubricant), it's likely the thrust washers will be nearly in spec - they don't wear much with proper lubricant.

The most important spec is the clearance beside the crosspin when you get the Aussie installed (the install instructions will tell you how to measure that). That's critical for proper operation, and Aussie will void the warranty if that isn't right. When I did my front, my thrust washers measured new specs, and I was within .001" of having too little clearance. You may be better off with slightly worn washers.

BTW, I love the Aussie. Decent manners and revolutionizes offroad performance.

As far as I know the differential has been properly lubricated. I drained and refilled with fresh oil when I purchased it. It is smoothe, no complaints noise or noticeable issues.

I did a lot of research before I decided on the Aussie, thanks for reaffirming my decision!

I plan on doing the rear locker now, and later decide what size tires I want to end with so I can re-gear when i do the front lockers someday

I got a Spartan locker for mine.

Spartan locker's instructions say to REMOVE the thrush washers when using their locker.

One less thing to worry about?

Well, to late for the spartan. I am confident that this install will go well.

It can't be more difficult than figuring out all my electrical problems

THe part I'm not looking forward to is re-adjusting my rear breaks!
