aussie locker

so i have been seriously contemplating an aussie locker for the rear of my 4runner. It is currently a DD and my only real concern is that the locker may eat up the rear tires. I am not concerned with any stability issues, as I have a mustang with a locker and can handle that just fine. mustang is no help on the tire wear department as I can never seem to keep the rear tires from spinning

The aussie seems like a great deal and I have seen quite few positive things on the site about them.

Please share your input

look in my writeup (see sig).

It increases tire wear a bit, but not enough to outweight the benefit of a locker. Instead of the front wearing faster than the rear, now all 4 tires wear about the same.

its all up to you, I was thinking of an aussi for a ling time the the tire ware will cost in the long run. one way or another you will be paying, I did go with the ARB and i dont regret spending the money. Just think about it you only have to buy it once.

Love my Aussie =) I drive 60 miles a day on the freeway. No complaints here! You'll learn how to handle it onroad, it unlocks fairly easy. Tire wear is not a concern i have.

The highway isn't where tire wear will occur as a result of lockers- its right angle turns at intersections on rainy days or if you have a heavy foot.

I guess its up to you! Control that right foot around corners in the rain and the inside tire won't spin. Its that simple.

I put new tires on the truck in June of last year and did an Aussie install with new gears about a month later. Daily driver up until I bought my 4runner in Feb of this year. Swapped the tires, gears and locker out of the truck and into the runner. I still have plenty of tread left and do 90% of my driving on the street. It's easier to get used to than you think.

you will learn how to drive with a locker and be able to not lock it up in corners, i had anssie locker and it was much smoother than my friends lockright. i say get it and learn to let off in the corners.

Its smoothest if you gas lightly around corners.

According to your name, you have a v6...Aussie doesn't have a locker for the v6 carriers yet, do they?

They do now.

Parking lots require punching in the clutch around full lock turns, but who cares, you might make 4 parking lot turns a day...

Whats an aussie locker go for?
I've gonna be buying a locker, or possibly lockers real soon, but I don't really know the ideal set up.

My tires wear faster now with the locker. but I think that has more to do with the fact that brakestands are just so much more fun now that both tires light up

Ive had a locker for almost 2 years. Im so used to it by now, its awsume!

The added traction is amazing! One tire fires suck

I just don't think our motors are much to show off... Thus my right foot is pretty light.
I was sold on an aussie when I saw that awesome T shirt they throw in!

There is good and bad with all lockers, but as you have seen it all comes down to learning how to drive it, I have them in front and rear on mine, and I have a heavy right foot, and it feeds a 5.7ltr V8 as well in my runner, and my tires are doing OK.
