Attarco!! Please Read!!

i thought our attarco head was doing fine on our '86 4x4 xtra cab pickup...which it is...but we guess they sent us a cam for a 22RE...because the lobes on the cam are worn about 1/4 in..(theres a lip on the very outside edge of the cam to prove this..pics WILL COME)..so we have to pull the head bolts..which means NEW GASKET...which means $$$$$$$$$...so..this time...im thinking of MAYBE building this head...OS valves...cam from LCE..by the way...which would be the best cam for the MOST improvement over stock in terms of HP/TQ/and MPG's..thanks for any info..and please..if you have an attarco head..please remove your valve cover IMEDIATELY!..and check your cam for wear...

HAving a 22RE cam in a 22R engine wouldn't make it wear fast. If they are different, then it would just make it run badly most likely.

Did you break in the cam properly?

the 22R and 22RE camshafts are the exact same thing. The wear sounds like it has nothing to do with Attarco heads, but WAY over tight valves.

nothing was over tightened...but for some reason..we had to adjust the lifters almost ALL the way out..if we had adjusted them out anymore..then they would have stripped off thereselves..never said it had to do anything with the head...but with the cam that came with it..

Well 1st thing you need to do with new cams is start the truck and let it SIT and idle for 15 minutes without moving the RPS up or down, if im not mistaken it says to let idle at 1500RPMs i could be off on that number tho. then my machine shop guy told me to put 50 miles on them with original oil at no more then 2500RPMs then change oil to a regular 30wt. for the next 500miles,All this time driving it at normal operating conditions without a load. after that 500 miles you need to change oil again after that you can switch to synthetic. (this is for a full rebuild) thats what i was told if its differant then that then i missed the memo!

P.S see i posted on your thread and did mention anything about shooting at you!

Just to say someone else says the same thing YOU DO LET IT IDLE!!! and RPMS on that idle depend on the motor your working on!

it says no where in there to let it idle during break in..

the links info is correct though, keep the motor reved up to or around 2,000 rpm's for 20min. the point of that is to get good oil flow to the top end during break in!
