A-arm and tire rub?

I have ball joint spacers and 33 inch tires on my 91 4runner. I have the stock steel rims that came with the 4runner. When I installed the BJ spacers, I trimmed the A-arm lip. Now, it looks like the A-arm is rubbing against the tires. I have a nice grove cut into the inside of the front tires. Any suggestions?

Wheel spacers or larger tires. What tires do you have now? I have 31X10.5's "Dominators" from Discount and they clear with quite a bit of room. I also have the stock alloy wheels.

I had that problem with a factory alloy too. I have used the Tacoma style wheels in the past and it solved it. Now I run the American Racing Outlaw II 15x7 (factory width). The offset is different and they clear just fine. When I had the wheels that rubbed, I noticed that they would only do it at the suspensions full droop. They were fine at ride height. I would try a different tire and wheel combo. Do your wheels happen to be the same ones as the truck in the pic below?

I have 33-12.50. They worked on my 86 truck. i was using the 15x8, stock, aluminum, toyota wheels. Are the stock steel wheels any different? That is what I am using on the 91 4runner?

Thanks yota82,

No, I used those alloys on my 86 pickup. I am using the stock steel toyota rims.

I have the same problem w/ my stock steelies. I have a set of 4runner alloys on the way that should fix it though... You could run wheel spacers like elripster suggested if you want to keep your wheels

I looked at the Rims I have been using over the years and here is the run down. My 86 alloys are 7 inches wide. A pair of alloys I bought are 8 inches wide and the steelies are wider, maybe 8.5 to 9 inches wide.

The 33x 12.5 worked on the 86 with the 33's and bj spacers. The 33's with the steelies are rubbing at the upper a-arm. So my choices are to buy spacers for the steelies or switch the 33's to the 15x7 alloys. Any suggestions?

I would buy spacers if you like the steelies, and if you dont really care, you could just go back to the 15x7 alloys.

I do not want to put a 1 inch spacer on. I would like to know if I can put my 33's on my 15x7 alloys, and would that work with the 91 4runner? Are the A-arm setups on my 86 truck the same as the A-arms on the 91 4runner? I am a bit lost as to why the 33's are worked on the 86 and not on the 91 4runner.
I measured the back spacing on the two sets of alloys and they are 4.5. It that correct. The spacing on the steelies is 4.375, so not that different. Any way, I do not want to use spacers, and would likt info on which of the three sets of rims I have will work on the 91 runner. The 15x7 alloys or the 15X8 alloys with 33's. Thanks for any help.

Thx Norcalsrv,

Thats the info I needed. I think I will go that route. Do you think the 33's on 15x7s, would fit better(as far as a-arm rub), compared to the steelies and 33's. I think the back spacing is slightly less than the alloys, and the steelies look to be 8 to inches wide. Any know the actual size of the steelies?

thanks again Mike
