Anyone else ever had this noise
My 4Runner has a noise that has me puzzled. It's an 89, 22re, 5speed manual. There is a faint knock type sound when idling that sounds like it is in the bell housing, clutch area. It seems kind of intermittant, and I can't hear it when I speed up the motor. I think it also goes away when I push in the clutch, but I am not for sure. Anyone else ever had anything like this?
Thanks

i've had this noise since putting in my rebuilt 3.0 in my 91 sr5 pickup 4x4 5spd. i haven't yet been able to locate the source. i've driven a couple thousand miles with out any ill affects. it almost sounds like a rod knock but it is only at idle and seems to go away with rpm increase so its not rod knock. also oil pressure is good and engine power is fine.

If it were in the valve train I would think the noise would be coming more from the valve cover??
The noise I have is from lower, and sounds behind the motor. Seems odd to me, but I do have an old clutch disc that has loose springs and is loose in the center, and wondered if that's what it could possibly be.
Thanks
