Anyone bought an engine from Orient Engine

My 86 4Runner has had a rod knock for about the last 11 months/20,000 miles but since it's a Toyota it still runs, I'm just not sure how much longer it will go, I want to get a good rebuilt, has anyone had any exprience with Orient Engine, or what about oregon engine rebuilders. I've heard good and bad about both, just trying to do some research here. Paul

theres a guy by the name of cootees here on the boards that got one from Orient.

It seems that they have a pretty good rep, how long do you think I could continue to drive my 22r with the rod knock? It knocks really bad on initial startup but then goes away, I can't believe it hasn't died on me yet

I just developed the same knock in my V6...hope mine lasts that long! Mine has a mild knock on cold startups and going down the road at cruising speed 25-45mph.

I just use castrol 20-50 in mine and change it every 2-3000 miles. I drove it from nor cal to montana then montana to texas a few weeks ago no problem. I think the thicker oil really helps. My buddy had a knock in his v6 and it went bad pretty quickly, I think the 22re is a way better engine. But, I would definetly reccomend using 20-50 if you have a knock, I think it's helped mine anyways, my friend who had the V6 used 5-30.

I would try 20-50 but we have weather in the 20's and 30's here so the oil pump would work overtime just to pump it out of the pan. I did however just change the oil from 10-40 to 10-30 and the knock did get louder. I might switch back to 10-40 til march or so.

Well, I think I'm going to go with Orient engine, I've read nothing but good things about these guys....I'm wondering what else I should replace while replcacing the engine, my truck does have 223,000 miles, all new injectors maybe, distibutor? Any suggestions....

I got my injectors sent off to be ultrasonically cleaned and they put new screens in them and new seals. They also test them electrically too to make sure they are juicing up correctly. They give you a flow test before and after the clean. I talked to silver truck on here and I shipped them out to him and he took them to the shop to be cleaned and I paid for everything. For all 6 of my injectors was around $125 not including tax and shipping. More cheaper than new ones! Also get new fuel injection seals. I think they are little brass washers to ensure you won't have any leaks. I would leave the distributor if its operating fine now. Orient does have a good reputation.

I got a 3.0 replacement for a friend from Orient. PERFECT transaction, excellent folks. The price you see on the site includes shipping _both_ ways, _they_ arrange for the return pickup, and they give you 30 days before they charge you the core charge.

Incredible.

The engine was installed by a Toyota Master mechanic and he said it was as clean as anything he's ever seen.

I second what Midiwall just stated. I bought an Orient engine over a year ago while on vacation - great people and fantastic customer service.

The engine was extremely clean and came with gaskets, timing belt, a new idler pulley and a 3 year warranty - they even included a test sheet where they had the engine running - they recorded oil pressure, temperature of the engine, temperature of the exhaust for each cylinder etc. etc.

I have nothing but good things to say about the whole experience !

Thanks for all the input, I think I'm going to run my 22re until it dies, I 've been driving it with a knock on startup for about 20,000 miles and it's still going, although it has no power. I think I'm definitelty going to go with Orient though when I do decide to get one. I've also been toying with the idead of getting a 95 4runner 5spd. Does anyone know of any good deals around on a 2nd Gen? I would maybe buy an auto if it was in pristine condition. I live in Dallas Texas for now and the only 2nd Gen's I can find have autos. 86 4runner 22re 20,000 miles on rod knock and still going.....

I bought an Orient engine this summer to replace a blown 3.0, and they were great. Very clean engine, fast shipping, I would definately buy from them again but I hope I never have to. Can't beat the 3 year, unlimited mileage warrenty either.

Yeah I think I'm going to order my 22re this week. I'm kind of putting it off though because I want to see how long the 22re will go with a rod knock, 20,000 miles so far, but I don't want to throw a rod. Is the 1499 for the engine with the core exchange included or not?

The price on the website includes shipping both ways, and the core _exchange_. They won't charge you the core _charge_ until 30 days after the engine's been delivered. i.e., it's not like some places that will charge you for the core, and then refund it when they get your block.

Again, Orient are AWESOME people.

Also... When you're ready to ship the core back, then just give them a call and THEY will arrange to have it picked up. You don't have to do a thing 'cept bolt your block down on the pallet that they used to ship you the new one.

I dunno how it could be any easier.

When I bought mine a couple of months ago the core was added on top of the initial price and then refunded when the motor was back in transit. If you go to the pricing page you can see the core price. It lookes like the 22r has a $300 core charge.

I highly suggest them though. I am very satisfied with their work.
