Anybody done a HID conversion on their 2nd gen?

'Cause I'm about to buy a bi-xenon (low/hi beam)kit for the 9004 setup from a vendor here in FL. He's at $380 shipped & has a good reputation with the Camaro /Firebird/ Mustang guys.

1. Any experiences?
2. Any recommended vendors? (everybody and their brother sells HID kits now). I don't want junk.

When i put my 85 together im going to be installing hid's. I have done a few kits in non hid cars. its an easy swap.

If you have sealed beam headlights grab some h4 conversion headlights and use those. My kit uses h4 so its a plug and play swap. Some modding may be needed to fit other bulbs in other housings. I have run d2s bulbs in h4 housings by making rings for the bulbs and even converted d2s for 9006 and 9005

Next my 4runner

Hello! Even if you retrofit projectors behind fluted lenses there is a significant difference in glare compared to drop in HID kits like you're talking about. With projectors you won't have the glare like the "kits". The only thing that is different when retrofitting projectors behind fluted lenses as opposed to clear lenses is the fact that the edges of the cutoffs are slightly bent downwards. The light output is the exact same though. Consider doing an HID projector retrofit. Even though the seller has a good rep, you have to consider that the rep is coming from the buyers; not the oncoming traffic drivers that have to deal with the heinous amounts of glare.
