Anti-Freeze Leak

Hi everyone,

I've got a 1988 4runner with the 22re. I've got an anti-freeze leak through the metal tube I think the lower radiator connects to. The leak just sprung yesterday. I was just searching around the internet to see if I could find the part to replace it, but I haven’t had any luck. If anyone knows what I’m talking about and maybe a place to find it that would be a great help.

Thanks,
Jake

There is a metal tube that goes around the back side of the engine that is flanged on one end and hose clamps on the other I believe. Mine was just worn out and was actually weeping instead of leaking...wasn't much or hard to replace. You should look at an FSM to see exactly what it is called.

Contact strap22 on here (Toyota of Dalls www.trdparts4u.com) and see if he can help you locate what part it is and get you the part.

EDIT: Either the "heater tube" or "water bypass tube" sounds like what you are talking about, but I can't find a good picture of the radiator in the FSM, go figure.

I'm also having what sounds to be this same problem. I have to add coolant every couple of weeks. I think this may be where mine is leaking from because when it's really cold out, the engine steams really bad from the back.

Is this a replacement for the part that waskillywabbit is talking about?

I'm still looking to fix my leak. As a temp fix I've just been adding coolant to it every so often.
