another tps adjustment question

another tps adjustment question

I am having torque converter lockup issues, sometimes it will lockup and sometimes after I test it (brake pedal while cruising) it wont lockup again. I tested my TPS and didn't exactly get what I expected.
Heres a chart of what the Ohm meter read:

No clearance VTA-E2 .75 kO

.50 mm IDL-E2 1 kO

.80 mm IDL-E2 1 kO

Fully open VTA-E2 4.96 kO

No clearance Vc-E2 6.30 kO


These are all on the 20k range.


Everything looks good except IDL-E2, When I have the probes hooked up to IDL and E2 and move the throttle nothing happens, this leads me to suspect that the IDL part of the TPS is messed up.
What do you guys think?

hey razed, i adjusted the tps based on 4crawlers websites instructions and i still don't notice a change in idle speed or pitch when the jumper is in, cold or hot.

if i were to try what your suggested, would the difference make the motor 'struggle' (like a stuck open egr valve?)

maybe the tps is shot. Try taking the metal cover off and see if you can clean the contacts.

when i had it off the truck on the bench, it would go from 1 (open circuit) to whatever (less than 2.3k ohms) when I was adjusting it. Or are you talking about the other contacts?

About a year ago, my truck was doing some weird stuff. Everything pointed to the TPS. I just ended up getting a new OME since it was the original one. I tried adjusting it many times and became frustrated. Then I just resorted to this method above mentioned by raze, and it turned out well.

alright ill pull it into my garage and get at it. should the truck be hot or cold?

Warm up the engine before adjusting. Or at least that's how I did it.

I would replace the screws with allen headed ones, if possible, to make adjustment easier.

Have you seen 4 crawler's TPS write-up? Very informative, and gave me all the info I needed to troubleshoot and ultimately to replace and calibrate mine.
