Another locker question

I bought a used lockright locker for the front alxe of my truck. It is a 87 ifs with a 22re. It is used as a daily driver for now. Should I wait to buy the rear locker and do them both at the same time or just do the front for now? How does the front locker handle in the winter with the hubs locked in? If it looks like too much for me I'm gona send it to zuk I really want it done right the first time. Thanks

A front auto locker will not be fun in the snow.. Unless its deep snow..

So would you not put it into a daily driver? If I did I did some reading on some people just locking one side. Do you think I could do that for winter driving? The roads here get more packed snow and ice than deep snow. Thanks

I would not put it in the front of a daily driver. Trail rig only. Maybe not even then. Lock the rear and put a limited slip in the front or save up fro arbs

Not even sure I'd put a limited slip in the front, as an LSD is likely going to act just like a locker in slick snow. I don't think I'd like to be on a icy side slope and have all 4 tires slipping.

Forget a front auto locker if you see snow.

I believe that they unlock one hub to keep a locked front end from binding when turning, that is why I put in a twin stick, but my trail truck is not a DD.

Driving a locked rear DD in snow is interesting enough. Locker up front you may not go the direction you want IE: turn right and end up going straight. That is why LC's with an E-Locker are great.

I think the only hardware I'd put in the front of a DD truck that sees snow is an ARB based on my experience with side slip with a rear locker.

Strange. I have the lockright in the rear of my truck and i haven't had one problem in the snow. I drove around town fine in 2wd. Taking it cautiously, of course, but not once did it feel unstable or like it was going to spin out. This is just my experience. It probably has a lot to do with the tires as well. Im running Trxus mt's and have had no problem

For the front, i cannot comment. I am trying to get my hands on a differential for the front that is locked, and if i do ill let you all know how that goes.

Mabey Ill just sell it and put the money towards a rear locker. I plan on keeping it a daily driver especially during the winter. Ill list it over in the classifieds. Thanks.

Rear locker is only a problem if you're driving aggressively on ice/ slippery packed snow and very slick pavement. Also, on aside slope when you spin your tires. I found by back end fish tails in 2wd easier than with open diffs. Put it in 4wd, and its tame once again, no drama.

just install the thing. and when you dont want both tires pulling, just lock 1 of the hubs thats the best thing to do. I put a spool in the front of my IHC SCOUT and thats how I managed it to drive on plowed streets. lock 1 hub.

Remember to break those gears in properly. Don't overheat the gears. Gentle on them for a bit until the gears are "burned in". You're going to love the locker.
