Another 22re engine rebuilder question. Need suggestions and feedback/reviews
I have a 91 Pickup that blew a HG recently and the bottom end is tired too so I'd like to make the investment and drop in a Stage 2 rebuild.
Sadly I missed the boat on my preferred option which was 22REperformance. As of December 2020 Jim has shut down orders until their backlog of 70+ engines thins out. Prior to that it was a almost a one-year waitlist.
So now I'm stuck narrowing down my options once again.
I called Yota1performance and their parts build sheet looks a lot like Jim's but with only a 12 week wait list.
There's another place called Sunwest automotive which is a little closer to home for me. I know nothing of them but the website has plenty of info.
Next option is a place in OR but info on them is pretty vague.
I don't mind paying for shipping but I want a reputable build and willing to shell out the money for it.
Last few times I did a search on this, the links were old and some of the builders seemed to have all but disappeared.
At any rate, I'm looking for long-term reviews from others who have paid to have their engines rebuild and what the experience has been like.
This is a really cherry pickup and I want to baby it and keep it for a while. Not a wheeler, not a racer. Just a head-turner weekend-rig.
Ok, thanks. I'd be interested to see what others post regarding their experiences.
I just didn't want a block that had been decked, bored, etc., so getting a factory block was the only viable choice.

It’s just a thought, but since you’ve prepped yourself to spend the money.....
if your OEM head is useable you could get a factory shortblock assembly. Nothing milled, bored, oversized, etc. A shortblock that’s 100% spec. Install a new timing chain, then drop your resurfaced head back on. And with the shortblock already assembled a huge % of the technical part is behind you
You could get a new cam with a little more lift. Keep your OEM cam in case you don’t like the side affects caused by the extra lift. A mild lift usually doesn’t affect idle much, the more aggressive ones can make the idle pretty lopey.
Building a engine on a stand let’s you install a TON of stuff that’s a pain once the engine is in. Down right fun.

The whole point of finding a reputable builder is, I don't have the time, nor the motivation to do a build myself.
I would rather pay the $ on a "drop in" that I know is built; beyond-right and will last another lifetime of the truck.
