am I crazy...selling 4runners for a suzuki

I actually got into Yotas because of a longtime friend of mine who was racing them, he made the switch to Zukis about 6 years ago.
We have endurance races here that have courses of rocks, woods, mud, etc., the distances are 6 miles and 12 miles, I can't remember how many laps they do.
He started with a Sami with an engine from a Corolla (1.8l?) and moved to a Sidekick, its very durable and fun.
He still runs Yotas on the street and has a '92 that easily pulls the Zuks to any events.
On a side note I was outbid a couple of years ago on rare Zuk pickup that has a stretched Sami frame, frontend, and doors and a very simple flatbed with sides that fold down. I have also seen long wheel base Samis on eBay, these examples I believe are just between the length of 1st gen 4runner and a normal Sami.
I think they're pretty cool and I'd rather see you go that route than lose anyone to the creepy Jeep camp!

wabbit sure does speak the truth...
i priced out a ifs eliminator and if i keep rear coils i might be able to afford big tires..
problem then becomes my tow dolly needs to be febbed or truck needs to be put back on the road insurance
...
i may have found a sami that was running a 22r with no engine now for 300 with no rust..

My neighbor up the street has a suzuki Samurai that he has setup really nice. I has a supercharged Suzuki motor, 4.5: transfer case. 5:13 axles with longs in the front and a full floating rear axle conversion. ARB air lockers front and rear, jeep springs, 33x12.50-15 Interco SSR's and a full cage. He has driven that thing all over moab and the northwest and I have never heard him complain once about it's size. He can drive it into areas that we might not be able to, which could make it easier for him.

cool, i think, definetly has a lot of spending cash, god damn.
Not what I would do to a rig personally. I prefer function over competition but to each their own. Still a sweet rig and some good fab work done.
Tho you can hardly call it a sami anymore lol

so maybe a stock 85 just a little lift on 33s is a more relible.. better put together wheeler..
and prolly pretty light compared to towing a second gen runner..
im going to go look at teh 84 single cab flat bed before i decide on a zuk

) His still looks mostly like a samurai. He has built it up over the years to what it is now. I actually found a site that his rig on it. It actually has stock gears. for some reason i thought he said that he changed them. He now has 33x12.50's.

In my opinion he's building it for function. A trail only rig, but still for function. Why else would he be putting a seat in for his daughter? I understand what your saying thought. I wouldn't build a trail only rig either. but ya can't help but respect the amount of time and planning that's gone into that rig!

seems to me i found a mint 82 that is just dissassembled but like primed epoxyed and ready to go...
still waiting on a few zuks..
got lots of interest in parts from my gold 4runner...
might even end up parting the blue one 2..
anyone in canada need any 4runner parts if i do this?

In general I've been very impressed with your rig and common sense mods, so I don't mean to be disrespectful in any way but you couldn't be farther from the truth regarding Suzukis.
If you can get it for a Toy, you can get it for Zuk and from multiple vendors. You can find just as many parts in JY for Zuks as Toys.
Trust me, I own both and my Suzuki is much bigger and built more capable than my Toy is. Zuks are cheap to build.
How much are a set of Longfields for you SAS'd yota? I bet not as cheap as trailtough's axles for the samurai.
Zuks and Yotas are the only things I will wheel. You can't go wrong with either.

I wouldn't equate a no frills vehicle to being cheaply made per-se. Was the rusted and rotted out truck bed of the 88 and earlier toyota trucks a symptom of being cheaply made? The samurai was an inexpensive, open top, solid axle vehicle that competed well with Jeep Wranglers.
