ouch. My brains hurt after figuring your typing out.
Have the battery checked. If the battery wont accept a charge, replacing the alterntor won't change anything. And of course check fuses, cables, corrosion, etc. All the normal.

the alternator has two connections to the batt- one is the main charging wire from the alt to the batt and the second is a parallel circuit that goes through the ignition and dashboard indicators. there are fuses for both wires.
so check the fuses.
so check the fuses.

I bought a remanufactured alternator from Napa and the alternator isn't charging. I was wondering if it could be anything else besides the alternator... the fuse was good but I was thinking maybe a relay somewhere or something (was causing the problem).

what is sad, in my opinion, is when there are wiring diagrams (a.k.a. schematics) available for free online, if people would only click on 'search', which show which wire goes where, and what fuse or breaker is installed in the line...
...
and people still can't figure it out.
...
and then still wonder why mechanics charge so much for troubleshooting.

just to tag onto this guys problem, i had to pull the fuse (which was perfectly fine) for the A/C fan(?) because it was not turning off and draining my battery... any ideas? all the wires check out okay...

check the switch that activates the a/c fan. it's probably bad, causing the fan to run constantly.

thanks!!

I don't have an electric fan on mine, but our Celica does. So that's what I was thinking, that there's a separate switch for the electric fan, maybe in parallel with the compressor or even linked into the cooling system. I'll check some wiring diagrams later.
