I am currently in the process of changing out my alternator on my 92 pickup. I had difficulties removing the alternator from the location where the pivot bolt is located. I had to use a crowbar in order to pop it out...the obvious problem now is putting the new alternator where the old alternator was located....it seems to be such a tight fit i feel like it is going to be impossible to place it back in its original location. any ideas, suggestions or if others have had similar problems I would love to hear possible solutions. Thank you very much for your help.

It will go back it, trust me. Its probably just because it hasnt been removed in ages. Once you do it a few times itll just literally fall out. Dont be afraid to manhandle it around, be careful with the crow bar around the timing belt cover, dont wanna crack it.

Forgot to ask, what motor is it? That info is for a 3vze. If you have a 22re, i have never done it.

Hmmm, I can offer you my experience that I have on my 2rz....yes it's very difficult; at first but it will go back in..try talking dirty to it

Hi, I have a '93 4X4 P.U. w/ 22RE, I need to change the alternator also.

I have the durned thing free, now I just can't get it out!

in order to take it UP, the steering assembly (and it's own bracket) is in the way.
Should I drain the radiator so I can take off the lower hose,
-to drop the alt. DOWN & out-
is that the preferred method?

any advice appreciated!

You shouldn't have to drain radiator but I remove mine through the bottom. Remove skid plate and pull it down outa there. Going back can be a little rough but you can do it.

thanks man, I'll have another go tomorrow.
This truck is lifted and has a lot of extra (hydraulic? pneumatic?) cross-brace-ey stuff down there (sorry, don't know the right words yet; just got it recently)

I find it is so much easier just to remove the lower hose.

To me it is saves a lot of frustration and time.

Not like your doing this all the time might be time for a new lower hose and new coolant any how.

This is the way the FSM recommends as well.
