Just ordered a set of gaskets and o-ring. $34 for genuine toyota quality.
Can't argue when the hubs still work like new after 23 years.

Whoever said RTV is wrong to use is wrong. If your not prepping it correctly it will leak. I have put 100k miles on 3rd members with RTV and no gasket. Actually gaskets seem to not last as long on differentials. Heck my Ford 8.8 has RTV and it does not leak. All of your 22R(E)'s use RTV from the factory for your oil pan gasket so you can use RTV on your diff or your hubs. I have and not one problem. The key is prepping and cure time. Gaskets will leak once you remove them. If your on the trail and you have to remove a 3rd or a hub, you usually cannot reuse the paper gasket. People think you put on the RTV, bolt the item together and fill it with fluids and your good to go. That is why RTV leaks not because it does not work because you failed to do what the instructions tell you to do.

I would like to add something to JamesD's perfect post. The right type of RTV is crucial too. Red RTV is not the Same as Ultra Black RTV is not the same as clear RTV etc etc. The same RTV should not be used on your water pump as your 3rds.

Oh and gray and black is the only two I use with great results. Read the TDS (Technical date sheet) PDF under each sealant:
