Come on...seriously people. Think about it.
If it doesn't matter what you do to the AFM adjustment wise then:
A) Why is it adjustable?
B) Why did they set it a certain way at the factory?
C) Why did they seal the cover on the AFM so you can't fool with it?
The answer to all those questions:
Because it does make a difference. They went to the trouble of dialling it in to run stoichiometrically at the factory(because they need to meet emissions standards in this country). Which by the way isn't taking advantage of running too lean or too rich. Which can each be advantageous in different ways. To run stoichiometrically is cleaner and produces less harmful emissions than running rich, and cooler/safer than running lean. But it is NOT the way to make the best mpg(leaner is better) or the most HP(richer is better).
It's as plain and simple as this, if you tell the ECM more/less air is coming into the engine(adjust the AFM rich/lean), more/less air IS coming into the engine. It has no other way to know what the VOLUME of the AIR FLOW is without the signal from the VOLUME AIR FLOW METER. If you don't understand that's what the VAFM is there for, then YOU don't know how one works!
